>> and i'm jon kelly. good morning, everybody. yes, the damage and destruction all over that east coast this morning in the wake of hurricane sandy, but the hardest hit is new york city, just devastating out there. two people were injured when a total of 50 homes burned overnight in queens and floodwaters there made it very, very difficult for firefighters on that scene to get water pressure there in their hoses to take down those fires. and this morning to talk about all this coverage, we do have team coverage in place of this aftermath of hurricane sandy, now changed to a superstorm. we will get things going out there. we're being told over six million people are without power up and down the east coast. our team coverage will include marla tellez. we also have christina loren will talk about all of that weather and stephanie will be out talking about what's happening as well at sfo. again, 50 plus homes have been destroyed out there, worse than irene they're being told. but let's take it live right now. nbc is covering this for us up and down the east coast. daniel lee is live

buildings here in lower manhattan. jenna: thank you for joining us, jon. jon: sound like a good times and the hour. megyn: 50 million people in harm's way. a massive storm heading towards a paralyzed east coast, it is what one meteorologist is calling a worst-case scenario. welcome to a "america live", i am megyn kelly. hurricane sandy is a monster. 1000 miles across, 90-mile per hour winds, one of the top forecasters in america calling it a hurricane on steroids. right now, nearly a quarter of the entire ovulation of the united states under a state of emergency. full on emergency declarations in eight states along the eastern seaboard from virginia to massachusetts and washington dc. limited state of emergency in delaware and north carolina. that could well change. over the past few hours the storm has picked up and strengthen, starting to make the forecasted turn inland as some reports of 90-mile per hour wind gusts have head. it is expected to make landfall around atlantic city, new jersey. the resort town reporting heavy damage to the boardwalk there. the casinos are closed

had to evacuate patients last night, losing power and emergency generators failed. dr. jon lapook was there. god good morning. >> god morningod morning, charlie. i got there late last night. the lobby was filled with doctors, nurses firemen, police trying to get people out of the hospital. they've gotten all but 50 out. that included kids neonatal icu kids. four of them were intubated. when i got there, they were being brought out, bagged manually. one was a 29-week-old premature baby, swaddled with a small face mask. >> this nurse was carrying this premature baby and doing some of the -- >> absolutely. >> how could this happen in a hospital like this one of new york's premiere hospitals, that generators fail? >> i found out, and i think this is really news. there were two generators. there was a primary backup generator that was on the roof. then there was a secondary backup generator that was at a lower level. what happened was the flood came in. it took out the secondary backup generator. the problem was that the pump that was lower down that sent fuel up to t

at every turn, republicans like ohio secretary of state jon husted have tried to kill it off. 30% of the ohio vote was cast before election day. this time around, it could be as high as 40%. the romney campaign has 36 field offices in the state of ohio. represented by the red dots on this map. the obama campaign has 96 field offices in ohio, the blue dots on the map. if the obama campaign has a better ground game, it can take full advantage of early votes and that's what they are trying to do. there's another potential in ohio. 500,000 voters have been taken off the rolls since 2008. a leading voting rights group has filed a request to make sure that the process was fully legal. joining me tonight and now is ohio state senator nina turner who has been on the forefront fighting this fight all along. you can see the folks behind her are ready to stay out and make sure they get voting squared away early. why are you going through this and how important is it? >> thanks for being with us, ed. it's vitally important that despite the dirty tricks going on in the state of ohio that folk

. >>> it is 7:26. good morning, everybody, i'm jon kelly. this just into our newsroom, a fire that engulfed the cab of a big rig is out. you can see past the tower of the bay bridge, the smoke coming up here. this was shot just moments ago. that cab we're being told caught on fire at the intersection of 7th and middle harbor road. so far no injuries have been reported. for the latest, let's take you to our road warrior. >> this is the bay bridge toll plaza and the backup here obviously a concern. but from the toll plaza you can see that smoke you saw. i have marked it on the map just below where it says interstate 80. it's in the port of oakland again so it's not on 880 or the bay bridge but is clearly visible from the area. that's what the smoke is for. now we're looking at south 880, very slow from san leandro all the way down into fremont. a series of earlier accidents caused a big backup and it will last all morning. also 680 coming from sunol, heavy volume. and the northbound routes, really slow 101 after an accident at allen rock. also red, i think those temperatures, christina. >> oh

governor of this state, jon corzine and the quarterback of the new york giants, eli manning, they lived there. on a good day, this is five minutes from manhattan. this is not one of the good days. >>> mass transit still pretty much paralyzed in the new york area. looking at video now of the south ferry station. that is not far from wall street. if you've been down in to the toe of manhattan there, you've probably ridden on that line to go to the new york stock exchange. new york governor mario cuomo said a few moments ago that -- andrew cuomo -- excuse me -- that there will be limited subway service tomorrow. we hope to get more information on that from mayor bloomberg in about 30 minutes' time. amtrak is now running service from newark to points south, but not in to new york city or northbound from new york city. problems still with some of the tunnels and the electrical service in -- on those lines. limited train service going to restart tomorrow for the long island railroad and metro north, which runs in to the northern new york city suburbs. >>> tyler, down here at the floor of the
